Trying to fit into the perfect box of not being "too white", but also not acting "too black" seemed to be my life, and often, I felt I was the only person alive who had this struggle along with all the other thoughts that follow.

To my surprise, I WAS NOT ALONE! In fact, there's an entire organization, The Multiracial Americans of Southern California (MASC), that is dedicated to creating activities and programs for all of us mixed, multiracial/multiethnic folks in the world.

And for all of you college kids hoping to advocate and promote justice for the multiracial community, you are in luck, MASC HAS STUDENT INTERNSHIPS. Or, at least, they do now. After discovering MASC, I knew I wanted to play an active role in helping them create multiculti. events and programs. So, after a couple phone calls, emails, and gaining the courage to reach out to MASC's president, Sonia Smith Kang, I started my role as MASC's FIRST INTERN.

Advice- if there's an internship out there that you are passionate about- reach for it! If the door doesn't look open go through the roof.

And if your'e looking for a mixed community to be a part of check of MASC of Facebook or Instagram to get connected! Maybe, you'll even decide you want apply to be an intern.

Check out my next posts to get a glimpse of some of the exciting events I was lucky enough to help create and people I was able to collaborate with during my dream internship with MASC!

Xoxo, A.
